Canceled Splendors of Japan Tour
I had to cancel a tour with this company about three months before it was scheduled, and let me tell you, it was a total nightmare! My husband wasn't able to go for medical reasons, so we had no choice but to cancel. We made sure to give them plenty of notice, but it was a real headache. We had to send 23 emails and make over 12 calls just to get a portion of our money back. Their service is a mess - it's like one hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing. We won't ever be booking with them again, and we're definitely going to warn all our friends about how poorly they treated us. It's just so frustrating to only get automated responses to our emails and to be put on hold so many times, only to be let down again and again. The way they penalize customers for canceling ahead of time is just plain ridiculous. Trust me, steer clear of this company no matter what!
Trip to Northern Spain
That trip to Northern Spain was absolutely dreadful! My buddy and I had such a rough time. The hotels and meals were so inconsistent - some were great, but others were just awful. Plus, the tour director had us on such a tight schedule that we couldn't even really take in the sights properly. It was just non-stop and draining. I don't think I'll ever sign up for another trip with that company again.
Madrid to Barcelona bus tour
I'm never going on another Trafalgar tour again! I spent so much money on a bus tour from Madrid to Barcelona, and it was totally not worth it. We barely stopped to take any pictures and didn't see much of the touristy stuff. It felt like we were just rushing from one spot to the next, with nothing exciting in between. I came all this way just to end up feeling let down!
Flight booking disaster
Don't book directly with them. It's better to go through a travel agent who can actually help you out.
Trafalgar Tour Patagonia Trip
Trafalgar really messed up on my recent trip to Patagonia. I got Covid and they just left me behind, the whole tour group. I had bought trip insurance through them, Aon Affinity Trip Insurance, thinking I'd be protected. But nope, turns out I was wrong. The agreement I reviewed made me think my hotel and taxi costs would be taken care of since the tour guide didn't help me at all. But Aon Affinity said no to covering those expenses, leaving me stuck and out of money. Trafalgar should be ashamed for not being honest about what Aon Affinity actually covers. Being sick in a faraway place is already scary, but being ditched by the tour group and having to handle everything alone is a whole other level of stress. Trafalgar really needs to rethink their partnership with Aon Affinity and guarantee their customers get the support they need in tough times.
Overcharged for prepaid stuff
Trafalgar tried to charge us extra for things we already paid for, so I wouldn't recommend paying in advance. They ended up asking for $80 more than we were expecting. The food at local restaurants wasn't great and only one hotel had air conditioning. Plus, there were only a few charging points on the bus that actually worked. However, the tour guide and schedule were really great!
Luxury Hotel Stay
As someone who just flew all night from the USA to France, I really didn't want a bad start. Unfortunately, that's exactly what happened at this hotel. When I got there at 9am with 4 bags, I was treated like I didn't matter and told I couldn't check in until 2pm. After being awake all night, I just wanted to take a shower and start seeing the city, but instead, I was stuck in the lobby feeling so annoyed and let down. It was a major bummer that really soured what was supposed to be a fancy vacation.
Splendors of Japan Tour
The Splendors of Japan Tour was a huge letdown. The tour guides were inexperienced and the optional excursions were lackluster, making the whole experience unsatisfactory. My wife and I were expecting a memorable and informative trip, but instead, we were stuck with tour directors who didn't have the knowledge or communication skills needed. It was frustrating not being able to get detailed information about the places we visited, the activities we did, or even the food we ate. Trafalgar really messed up here and should rethink their selection of tour guides and vendors if they want to offer customers a high-quality experience.
Tour booking cancellation
I had a really terrible experience with Trafalgar. I booked a tour in January 2023 for a trip in September 2023. When I asked about another tour, they cancelled my original booking without even asking me. It messed up my whole travel plans because I had already spent a lot on flights and hotels. I tried to fix things, but Trafalgar didn't help or even talk to me. It ruined my family's holiday because they didn't take responsibility or keep in touch.
Milan tour experience
The Milan tour was really great, overall. There were a couple of things that could've been better, though. The hotel we stayed at was okay, but it didn't have as many nice extras as some of the other hotels we've been to before. The schedule was really busy, with tons of cool places to visit in just a short amount of time. The hotels were just average because we were trying to stick to a budget, but at least the transportation coaches were always clean and cozy.
Italian Tour
My Italian tour experience was a real letdown. It was supposed to be a 13-day trip, but it only lasted for 12 days. This was my second time traveling with the company, and sadly, it was just as bad as my first tour in Egypt. The main problem was the travel director's poor communication skills, which made it difficult to understand what was going on. The bus driver wasn't very friendly either, which added to the negative vibe of the trip. On top of that, they kept trying to sell us expensive extra excursions that didn't seem worth it. The food and hotels were below par, with some places lacking basics like AC and good water pressure. Spending long hours cramped on the bus with too many people made the journey even more stressful. And even though we paid gratuities in advance, the staff didn't seem to appreciate it at all. All in all, I wouldn't recommend this tour company to anyone.
Amazing Ireland Tour
The tour of Ireland was actually pretty disappointing. The fancy coach we rode in wasn't very comfy, especially for older folks. And then, on top of that, there was some sickness going around among the passengers that wasn't handled very well. Next thing I knew, I got hit with Covid-19 right after the tour. It not only messed with my health but also messed up a family reunion I had planned in London. I tried reaching out to the company on social media, but all I got was a generic response. After digging a bit, I found out that similar issues had happened on other Trafalgar Amazing Ireland tours.
Tour deposit refund experience
Even though it was frustrating at first trying to cancel my travel deposit, the customer service really came through and saved the day. At first, they said no to giving me a refund, but I didn't give up. I contacted another representative who was way more helpful. They were willing to ask their manager for approval, and luckily, the manager agreed to give me back my $400. I'm grateful for getting my money back, but the whole process took longer and was more complicated than it needed to be.
South American tour
My most recent trip to South America with Trafalgar was a total disappointment. The guides didn't speak well, the buses were dirty, the rides were unsafe, and the itinerary was boring. The only good part was Peru, but Chile, Brazil, and Argentina didn't impress me at all. Our guide in Bariloche was pretty boring, to be honest. I've traveled with Trafalgar and Insight a bunch of times, but this trip was really lacking.
Best of Scotland Tour
My trip with Trafalgar on the Best of Scotland tour was amazing. Our tour guide really went out of their way to make sure we had an incredible time every day. Even when things didn't go perfectly, like losing luggage or someone getting hurt, our guide handled everything with care and expertise. The people in our group were awesome too - we all got along great and ended up doing all the extra activities together. This was definitely the best tour I've ever been on.
Canceled trip refund
I would not recommend this at all. I had to cancel my trip to Santa Fe and was supposed to get a refund within 90-100 days. It's been six weeks now and I still haven't gotten my $3300 back. Dealing with customer service has been a nightmare - long waits on hold and unhelpful reps. I am so disappointed with the refund policy and just the whole experience, overall.
Tour of Britain and Ireland
I'm not a big fan of tours since I feel like I could plan a better and cheaper trip on my own, but I wanted to see all the great stuff in Britain. The tour guide and driver, Gary and Sid, were really cool, but the bus was cramped and not comfy. The sights were pretty awesome, but I wish I could have done a tour of London. The hotels were hit or miss - some were fantastic, but others were really gross and old. The food was okay, but some places were confusing with the drinks. And it was a bummer that no one had name tags. Overall, I'd say it was about a C grade experience.
Great European Tour
I just booked this fantastic trip to Europe, but already things are going wrong. The travel agent tried to book a room at a certain hotel, but ended up booking a different one that's really far away. I also asked for transportation, but got turned down in a rude way. So yeah, not the best way to start off this trip.
Contrasts of Australia and New Zealand trip
My experience with Trafalgar was great when we were in Australia, but once we got to New Zealand things went downhill fast. There were some sick people on the tour which was a big mistake on Trafalgar's part, especially with everything going on with the pandemic. They didn't do enough to prevent the spread of illness, like making sure everyone wore effective masks and rotated seats to limit exposure. I ended up getting Covid during the trip and when I told Trafalgar about it, they didn't even respond. It was also really annoying for solo travelers because there was no guarantee of having your own seat on the bus, so I had to sit next to a stranger for way too long. The Tour Director didn't even listen when I brought up how unfair the seat assignments were. But on the bright side, the Australian Tour Director was amazing and the hotels were really nice.
Only saw sick people the whole time
Oh my gosh, I am never traveling with these people again. I was on a tour and ended up getting sick because this one guy wouldn't stop coughing. They totally ignored me and didn't even help me out while I was feeling so miserable.
