    Platform rollercoaster but staff came through

    some trains cancelled, doors wouldn't open, platform signs changing, felt like running in circles. But shoutout to the staff who sorted it: they told us which platform would run, gave a voucher and coffee while we waited. I use this route for work and weekend trips to Florence, so those fixes and the friendly crew really made a difference. Delivery ended up on time after all.

    Nice app, lousy support

    Saw this app after a coworker tipped me off; downloading and buying a ticket was weirdly pleasant — the interface is clean and tapping through times, seats, payment felt smooth. I was actually surprised it worked so well first try. Then my train got cancelled and I needed help fast. Calling both country lines turned into long muzak waits, like 30–60 minutes sometimes, and the callback feature kept rejecting the numbers I gave. Kinda ruined an otherwise handy experience.

    First call, really

    start with ItaliaRail — it saved me a ton of headaches. I was the DIY planner for a 22-day trip my wife and I took April 29–May 21, 2025, and honestly I was skeptical at first (do I need help?). I reached out a few months before we left and Maria at ItaliaRail won me over pretty quick. She pushed the ItaliaPass ($149) and yep, already more than $500 worth of benefits — didn’t expect that. She also synced our trains, timed connections, grabbed gallery tickets and a Vatican/Sistine tour so things actually fit. First impression = efficient, low-key; then I realized how much time, stress and money it saved us. A couple tiny hiccups but nothing major. Would contact them early next time.

    I thought I was being clever using that site, but nope. We got to the station 40 minutes early, scanned the departure board and... nothing. No train, no platform, just confusion. An hour later in the info line we were told the track was closed for works and the site never told us — they just leave you hanging. We missed planned excursions because the next legit train was 4.5 hours later. Annoying. On the plus side, the woman at the counter rebooked us and gave a small credit, so at least someone cared. Still, won't trust them again.

    it wasn’t. For three days I tried email, phone, social channels, everything, and barely got through. Eventually I reached a very helpful rep who sorted it, which I appreciated. Still, the stress of being on the road and not being able to get live help was annoying. Another thing that bugged me: there’s no app or consolidated ticket wallet, so you only have that original email and whatever screenshots you save. In rural Italy my cell signal wasn’t great, so having to dig through emails and screenshots was not ideal. By comparison, the Trenitalia app keeps tickets together and changing things there is fast. So, positives: the rep fixed it and we made our trains; customer-facing outcome was fine. Negatives: the contact process is clunky, you pay for change protection but it still took ages to actually change, and ticket visibility is poor. I’d use the service again only if I had time to handle potential holdups, otherwise I’d book directly through the national app. A little frustrating but not a disaster.

    Seat reservations for multiple trips

    After a frustrating time trying to book seats in person last year, I decided to give booking online a shot through a popular rail service website for Eurail passes. Unfortunately, it didn't go as smoothly as I had hoped. Each seat reservation fee came with an extra transaction fee per card, making the total cost much higher than I anticipated. Despite reaching out to customer service for help, all I got was unhelpful replies and then eventually, just crickets. My advice would be to consider booking seats in person at Italian train stations to avoid those pesky extra charges, even though it might be a hassle. Oh, and also keep in mind that timetables on certain routes might not match up with what's on the rail service website.

    Train ride from Florence to Naples

    So I hopped on this train from Florence to Naples, and let me tell you, it was just awful. Supposed to be a quick 3-hour trip, but it turned into a never-ending 6-hour journey. The bathroom? Don't even get me started, it was a complete disaster with trash all over the place. And get this, they actually ran out of water and food! How does that even happen on a train? To top it all off, there were no attendants in sight to help or give us any info. It was a total bummer, man.

    Terni to Rome train tickets

    I attempted to purchase tickets to go from Terni to Rome, but they ended up canceling my reservation because they claimed they were unable to verify my information, despite me providing them with all the necessary details. I gave it another shot with a new email and credit card, but encountered the same issue. I even tried calling them, but no one picked up the phone or bothered to return my call. It's really frustrating!

    Lost my hat on train

    I left my hat on the train from Rome to Florence and when I noticed it was missing, I asked the guard but she was no help at all. So, I went to the station to report it, and the Customer Services Officer there was just as useless. They said they couldn't do anything because I reported it the next day. It's crazy how little they seem to care about lost stuff! I bet they just pocket everything or sell it off. It's a total rip-off!

    My experience with the train tickets

    I had such a terrible time with those dang train tickets. My twin sister and I hopped on a train in Italy, paid for our tickets and everything, but the conductor came over and told us they weren't any good! We tried to show him our proof of payment but he wouldn't even give us a chance. Ended up missing our stop and having to fork over more cash because of it. Man, it was so irritating and just made me feel down.

    Cancelled train vouchers

    Because of COVID-19 in Italy, my train trips got canceled. I tried to get vouchers with extra perks, but I still haven't seen any of those benefits. It's been really frustrating, starting in May, with lots of emails to the agency that haven't been answered. I'm not sure if this agency is legit or if they'll actually give me the benefits they promised for taking the vouchers. They keep giving me vague answers about having to wait because they're busy. Looking back, I didn't even realize I was dealing with an agency and not the actual rail company. I wonder if anyone else has had similar issues.
